Chapter III: Their First Week
(Day 2- Day 7)

(Day Two)

We just survived our first night with the puppies. So far, everyone is doing well.  Karen, Jamal and I each got about 2 hours of sleep which was nice.  Cider's more or less herself.  She tried jumping on Grandma Karen this morning which we were not happy about..  She was very unsure of the pups yesterday but now is very interested in them, although she refuses to clean.  She lays right outside the door and wants to be in though. We're very happy though that at least she seems to tolerate lying on her side for 45 mintues to an hour before she gets too hot. She doesn't seem to have a lot of milk but hopefully, it's enough for 3 puppies.  The supply seems to be steadily increasing though.

This being the first newborn pups I've ever seen, it is very interesting how active they are and how much fun I'm having watching them.  The brindle girl reminds me a lot of her mom.  Very "willful".  She cracks me up -- she refuses to latch on to nipples that are offered to her but prefers to find her own or push off one of her littermates to get one.  Apricot girl is a real piggy and she always finds the best nipple. Very cute!

Still no name for our boy so in the meantime, we're calling him Slick for the slick roads we had to drive.  We named the brindle girl Drizzle because of the storm we drove through..  And Sparkle, well, Karen said she is a ray of sunshine we were hoping for.
